Walt Disney's Wide World of Sport Complex Florida

Disney's Wide World of Sport Complex which includes 9 venues and hosts a number of both professional and amateur sporting events each year is built on a 220 acre site. The complex which was opened in 1997 is located on former wetlands that were owned by Disney near Interstate 4 (I-4) at a cost to build of some $100 million.

Plans have been disclosed whereby a 160,000 sq ft bowling stadium with 100 lanes will be constructed for completion in 2010 which will be the largest in the USA. It will have a restaurant and stadium type seating and it is expected the stadium will be used for events such as the United States Bowling Congress or open to visitors.

The complex provides support to the local economy by bringing guests and visitors to the region.




 

Facilities.

Baseball Quadraplex.
This consists of four baseball fields, two of which are floodlit, for professional teams and one practice field. The Quadraplex  also includes ten bullpens, batting tunnels, pitching mounds, hitting tunnels and masters pitching machines.

Centre Court Stadium.
A ten-court tennis complex with seating capacity for between 1,000 and 8,500 people.

Champion Stadium.
A baseball stadium with 9,500 seats which was built in 1997 is an original component of Wide World of Sports that was formerly known as Cracker Jack Stadium and The Ballpark at Disney's Wide World of Sports.

The stadium has been used to host two regular season Major League Baseball series in 2007 and 2008. It is used as a training ground and/or a home ground for a number of teams.

Cross Country Course.
Provided are a Track and Field Complex, multi-purpose fields and a 0.7-mile (1.1 km) wooded trail.

Diamondplex.
This was the first venue to be completed at the facility consisting of six fields, four fields in circle and two adjacent, which are used for youth baseball and softball.

Hess Sports Fields.
Hess Corporation presented these eight multi-purpose fields which can be used to host a number of different sports where two fields are equipped for night play and four are built to international football (soccer) standard.

Jostens Center.
The Jostens Center is a 44,800-square-foot (4,160 m2) arena (about one-third smaller than the Milkhouse without the stadium seating) which opened in 2008.  The centre will feature six college-size basketball courts, twelve volleyball courts and two roller hockey rinks.

Milk House.
Sponsored by the National Dairy Association this is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose arena where the Old Spice Classic is hosted each year. The Milk House covers an area of 70,000 square feet with Stadium style seating with the highest row 35 feet above the floor. It also accommodates a smaller gymnasium which is located behind the main arena where retractable seating is installed. Once the Jostens Center's is operational the Milk House will continue to remain in use.

Track and Field Complex.
A complex designed for track and field event 500-seat competition facility designed to International Association of Athletics Federations Standards is providing a nine lane track, three shot put rings, two discus or hammer rings, a javelin runway, two high jump areas, two horizontal jump runways and two pole vault runways.
