Disney Dollars $$$

What better way to get your children involved at an early stage than by giving them Disney Gift Cards, which appear to be replacing Disney Dollars, for their birthday, at Christmas or for that extra bit of work done. They can then save for their holidays and see the funds increase while not being able to spend it until they reach Disney!

Disney dollars were previously used but in 2010 they were not issued by Disney. Disney Dollars are a form of tokens sold by Walt Disney which has a one for one value with the US dollar and have a similar shape, size and design. The dollars bear the image of Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto and Goofy or one of the Disney landmarks. You may no longer be able to purchase Disney dollars.

Disney Gift Cards.
However, nowadays Disney Gift Cards appear to be replacing Disney Dollars and they are readily available from Disney Stores.

Disney Dollars.
Since 1987 until 2009, inclusive,  Disney Dollars had been printed and sold at the price shown on the bill; Dollars were available in $1, $5 and $10 bills.  These bills are considered collectible to some and novel to others! Disney Dollars are a form of tokens and used as currency at Disney theme parks and also at the Disney Store. The ‘exchange rate’ is one US dollar to one Disney dollar.  The design of each bill is different every year, which is why they have become both collectables and lovely, decorative souvenirs (and were also great gifts, whether you visited one of the theme parks or just purchased Disney merchandise).

Each bill has a unique serial number and letter, what is interesting is that the Disney dollars will never expire and can therefore, be used anytime. The designs of each bill usually go along with a particular theme depending on Disney events in that year, for example, Mickey Mouse’s 80th Birthday. So it would appear that if you have Disney Dollars then they can still be used but you probably they will no longer be able to purchase them any longer.

Where to purchase Disney Dollars? If you still can?
Unfortunately, since 4th October 2009 The Disney Store no longer sells Disney Dollars and they were not issued in 2010. Readers should also note that Disney Dollars are not available for purchase online from Disney.

However, if you want to purchase Disney Dollars you could write to Walt Disney World Ticketing to check on their availability at:

WDW Ticketing
PO Box 10140,
Lake Buena Vista, FL 34736

Previously, customers would write a letter and list of how many ones, fives, and tens, up to $650.00 they want to purchase (and included payment for shipping and handling). You would purchase the Disney dollars with a cheque or postal order, made payable to Walt Disney World Ticketing (including the postal cost!).

International guests can also enquire by calling 001 714 781 4025 to check Disney Dollar availability.

Otherwise, wait until you get to the Resort to get some holiday Disney Gift Card currency. When you do arrive at one of the Disney resorts, you should note that you will be able to get hold of Disney Gift Cards at any Disney resort hotel or in the actual park, for example at News-stands, Disney resort shops or Emporiums (these are typical examples for guidance only).
